CHAPEL OF THE ROSARY. DESCRIPTION OF THE ALTARPIECE

The altarpiece is the work of Bartomeu Sureda, from Palma. The set is dominated by a polychrome wood carving of the Virgin of the Rosary with the Child, the work of the sculptor Miquel Borràs. This image is located inside a large niche and on a cloud of an angel and other full-length angels. The Virgin carries the Child in her left hand and in her right she carries a rosary, at the same time that it seems that she wants to hold the Child's hand. Jesus also carries a rosary in his left hand. All the walls of the niche have abundant reliefs, basically angel heads made by the sculptor Francesc Obrador.

On the right side of the altarpiece we find the image of Saint Thomas Aquinas, doctor of the church, called Angelic doctor. He has a sun on his chest as a symbol of luminary.

To the left of the altarpiece we can see the image of San Domingo de Guzman. The Saint wears a patriarchal cross, since he is the patriarch of the order of Preachers or Dominicans.

Just below the Virgin of the Rosary there is a tabernacle that was placed in 1959 to replace the old one made of gilded wood.
